We are delighted to welcome multidisciplinary artist Marie Akoury, of French-Egyptian heritage and based in Berlin, Germany, participating in a month-long artist residency at the ARD Art Institution in Cairo, Egypt. During her residency, Marie engaged deeply with Cairo’s vibrant art scene, focusing on the fusion of textile, auditory, and spatial design. She participated in ARD’s process-based program, which included talks, workshops, and exhibitions by resident practitioners, facilitating artistic growth and cultural exchange.
The residency culminated in a captivating performance titled “Copula ‘Sonic Textiles’”. This performance offered the audience a sensory journey, immersing them in an exploration of the ancient pharaohs’ perception of time. The evening also featured an engaging artist talk, allowing Marie to share insights into her creative process and experiences during her time in Cairo. Marie Akoury is a multidisciplinary artist with French-Egyptian roots living in Berlin, Germany. Based on her academic background in fashion design, set design and scenography, her works vary from Costume and Stage Design to multi-sensory Installations and Performance Art. In her work she focuses on the union of diverse media, which is the interface between textile, auditory and spatial design.
