About the Lab’s Program
Objectives
The main goal of this lab is to create a space for visual storytellers, especially photographers, but also open to visual artists in general, to explore different forms of storytelling, creative documentation, and collaboration.
Plan
Through theoretical and practical discussions, the lab will cover the following topics
- The purpose of visual storytelling
- Developing visual stories
- Ethics and representation in visual storytelling
- Methodologies and techniques in visual storytelling
- Different media and elevating documentary photography
- Approaches to collaborating with communities
- Where our stories can live, forms of display, writing, and reciprocal impact
Outcomes
- Understanding the new wave of visual storytelling
- Exploring methods beyond traditional documentary photography
- Understanding ethics and representation in visual storytelling
- Exploring and practicing approaches to reaching and engaging with communities
- Exploring methodologies to deepen visual storytelling
- Developing a visual story, preferably a personal project
- Developing a tangible and ongoing project proposal to apply for grants
- Organizing a group exhibition or potential publication
