Johannes Rave - Germany
In November 2024, German artist Johannes Rave participated in a two-month residency at the ARD Art Institution in Garden City, Cairo. This residency provided Rave with the opportunity to immerse himself in Cairo’s rich cultural landscape, resulting in artworks that reflect his experiences and interactions within the city.
During his two-month residency at the ARD Art Institution in Cairo, Egypt, in November and December 2024, German artist Johannes Rave immersed himself in the city’s vibrant atmosphere to create a series of watercolor paintings. His work focused on capturing the dynamic interplay of light and shadow within Cairo’s urban landscapes.
One notable piece from this period is “BALANCE IN CAIRO (Cairo #36)”. This painting reflects Rave’s exploration of balance and movement within the city’s bustling environment.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Rave collaborated with artist Karima Klassen during the residency. Their joint efforts culminated in an exhibition titled “Light Water Air” which showcased their interpretations of Cairo’s unique ambiance. The exhibition opened on December 23, 2024, at the ARD Art Institution, providing an opportunity for the local community to engage with their work and discuss the creative processes behind their pieces.
